Overview

Since 2007, the VaSCL Test & Task Bank has been a valued shared resource for our members. Educators from member divisions have come together every year to continue to expand and improve the bank, creating technology enhanced, constructed response, and multiple-choice items, as well as performance tasks and rubrics, which can be used by VaSCL school divisions to provide instructional support for teachers in assessing and remediating students. Educators who have participated in the Test & Task Bank Meetings have been proud of the work that they produced, and they have also been very pleased to be part of an ongoing Professional Learning Community made up of instructional leaders from across Virginia, with whom they can discuss pedagogical challenges and share successful instructional strategies.

During the 2020-2021 school year, rather than continuing the work of creating new assessments for the Test and Task Bank, VaSCL is offering a series of FREE virtual workshops, which will give ALL VaSCL educators the opportunity to explore how the fantastic resources that are available in the VaSCL Test & Task Bank, as well as discussions with colleagues about pedagogical issues, can help improve both instruction and assessment in virtual and blended classrooms.

During some of the VaSCL TTB Workshops, participants will explore how using Performance Assessments from the VaSCL Task Bank can provide students with engaging experiences that lead to deeper learning and more authentic work.  Other TTB Workshops will focus on how Items from the VaSCL Test Bank can be used to help educators – especially when they don’t have the normal clues provided in a face-to-face classroom setting – make data-driven decisions on instruction and remediation that will enable all of their students to succeed.

The main goal of all of the different VaSCL TTB: Sharing Instructional and Assessment Strategies and Resources Virtual Workshops will be to give ALL VaSCL educators – at NO CHARGE –  the opportunity to collaborate and share tools and strategies that they are finding to be successful in addressing the challenges they are facing in providing effective and engaging virtual and blended learning to their students.

Event Details

As we head into a year in which virtual and hybrid instruction are our new normal, how can we best meet the needs of students who are struggling with fluency?  Our focus will be on exploring strategies, as well as various tools and websites, that lend themselves to virtual or blended classrooms.  In this workshop, Virginia educators will be sharing their knowledge, experiences, ideas, and links to free resources so teachers can provide on-point fluency support for their students.  Different platforms, extensions and programs will be shared and discussed.
