Cover Letter to Faculty Advisors

Dear Faculty Advisor,

Each year for the past thirty years the Virginia School Consortium for Learning (VaSCL) (which was formerly known as VSUP, the Virginia School University Partnership) sponsors a Student Leadership Conference.  Last year’s conference was enjoyed by 403 students and faculty advisors from 59 different high schools.

This year’s Student Leadership Conference, which is scheduled for Friday, March 19, 2021, will be a virtual event for the first time, and we hope it will be our largest and most successful Student Leadership Conference ever!

We know that this has been an extremely challenging year for ALL educators, and you may be feeling like you just cannot handle dealing with sponsoring a team of students from your school for this event.

However, we also know how much high school students this year have been missing the many “normal” interactions and activities that they would have enjoyed in the past. So, VaSCL is determined to hold our thirtieth Annual Student Leadership Conference, despite the challenges presented by doing this year’s VaSCL SLC as a virtual event, and we are hoping that YOU might be willing to serve as a Faculty Advisor for students from your high school.

The Thirtieth Annual Student Leadership Conference, which is offered to your high school as a benefit of your division’s membership in VaSCL, is absolutely FREE to all participants.

The VaSCL Student Leadership Conference has traditionally been a terrific opportunity for students from all over Virginia to come together and share their experiences and ideas. Students have always responded very positively to the chance to learn from each other about successful activities and effective approaches to issues of concern in today’s high schools.

This year’s conference will be held virtually, via Zoom, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 19, 2021.

We hope that your school will choose to select a team (of three-five students and one-two faculty advisors) to participate in this year’s exciting event.

Please NOTE: If your school chooses to prepare and submit a five-minute video recording of a Share Fair Presentation or a Creative Expression Presentation for this year’s VaSCL SLC, you will be given the opportunity to register two additional students for this year’s SLC for EACH Presentation (for a maximum total of nine student participants).

More information on the plans for the 2020-2021 VaSCL Student Leadership Conference is available on the VaSCL website: www.vascl.org

If your high school wishes to participate in this year’s event, you need to REGISTER your team members by FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 26, using the online registration form on the VaSCL website.

Remember, there is absolutely NO CHARGE for participants from VaSCL high schools, and this year’s SLC will give your students the special treat of being able to connect with other students from across the Commonwealth!

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

We hope that your school will be a part of the first Virtual VaSCL Student Leadership Conference – it promises to be a memorable event!
